I Am Scared

I am scared.  I know there is a lot of talk about Trump being the next Hitler.  I hope he won’t get to the point of concentration camps, but at this point I am not sure.  What I do know is that he is going to cast so much doubt in our democracy we won’t know what is up or down any longer. I know this because it is already happening.

He has already made things unsafe for those in the LGBTQ+ community.  He has created a serious divide in our country, made it ok to be racists, misogynistic, homophobic, and hateful.   He has silenced the CDC, abolished the DEI, removed the security details of former government officials who did not agree with him, attempted to make legal citizens illegal, and so much more.

For those who don’t know, Germany was a democracy before Hitler stole the office.  Hitler tried to stage a coup but was put in prison for the crime.  This is where he wrote Mein Kampf and found a following.  Germany’s democracy during the Hitler uprising was stronger than ours was in 2020 when Trump committed treason and staged a coup on our government.  He should be in prison for life for trying to overthrow the government, instead, he was elected president.

Hitler was able to dismantle the German democracy in 53 days.  How fast do you think Trump can do it seeing as our democracy is much less stable.  I can see how the Nazi’s took power now.  I look around.  I look around when I am at the grocery store, when I am at the library, when I am in line for school pick up.  I wonder, which of my neighbors are ready and willing to turn my child in to the government to prove they are a loyal servant of Trump.

I can tell you this; I will be the one hiding people in my attic.  I will not go down without a fight.  I want to believe that those who voted for Trump were naive.  I want to believe they couldn’t predict he would work toward becoming a dictator.  I want to believe they didn’t agree with project 2025.  However, I am not naive.  They knew.  They all knew.

I do believe there are some good Republicans left in this country.  I do believe there are people in our government that are there because they care about our country and the citizens that live within its borders.  I am writing this to you.  To the people in Washington who still remember why they ran for office.  Don’t be afraid.  Don’t let your desire for another term overshadow what is right.

Trump can only succeed if those in office are too afraid to stop him.  We need people to stand up and stop this madness.  We should not be threatening war with peace loving countries.  We should not be threatening our allies while glorifying our enemies.  We should not be allowing Trump to make Executive Orders that directly contradict the Constitution.  We cannot let Trump destroy our democracy.  I am certain of this, once they have done his bidding, he will dispose of them as he has the others that came before.

I pray our civil servants spend their evenings reading the orders.  I pray they don’t let him bury them in paperwork. They must read between the lines.  They must determine what the end goal is for each Executive Order.  Most of all, they MUST work together.  They can no longer be Republican or Democrat.  They must be Americans fighting for the survival of our country against a dangerous enemy.

I know some of you will feel this is an overreaction.  That I am just being dramatic, and our democracy is too strong to cave in a single term.  I assure you it is not.  Read the history books while you still can.  You will find the truth lies in the ghosts of our past mistakes.

May God have mercy on us all.
